DKI Jakarta Police said that the Cakung-Cilincing traffic jam was resolved after the U-Turn was closed.
JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Transportation Office (Dishub) claims that traffic flow on Jalan Raya Bekasi to Jalan Raya Cakung-Cilincing, East Jakarta, has started to run smoothly after traffic engineering was implemented by closing a number of U-turns.
The scheme will be re-enacted the next day to anticipate vehicle congestion.
Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Office Budi Awaludin said traffic engineering was implemented around 19.00 WIB. About 30 minutes later, vehicle density began to gradually disperse in both directions of the road.
"Alhamdulillah everything can be resolved. Both the left and right conditions are very smooth after traffic engineering with the closure of U-turn in Cakung, Babek, and JGC," said Budi at the location, Wednesday, July 22 evening.
According to Budi, the Police will re-implement the closure of U-turns in the Cakung, Babek, and Jakarta Garden City (JGC) areas starting at 15.00 WIB. This step is taken so that vehicle traffic remains under control when the volume of trucks heading to the port area increases again.
To support traffic engineering, Dishub deployed around 75 personnel consisting of East Jakarta Transportation Sub-Office officers, North Jakarta, and provincial level personnel.
In addition to regulating vehicle traffic, officers also directed trucks to Tanah Merdeka Terminal as a temporary shelter location if there was a queue to the container depot.
Budi explained that the congestion in the Cakung-Cilincing corridor was triggered by the accumulation of containers in the port area. The high volume of imports that was not balanced by export activities caused the container depot capacity to be increasingly burdened so that the truck queue extended to the road.
"We hope that Pelindo's warehouse capacity can be increased from 65 percent to 75 to 80 percent so that there will be no more accumulation of containers in warehouses," said Budi.
