9 Demonstrators in Serang Sentenced to 8 Months in Prison

SERANG - The Serang District Court (PN) Panel of Judges, Banten, sentenced nine defendants to prison sentences for a riot-like demonstration that occurred on August 30, 2025 in Serang City, Banten.

Presiding Judge Rendra, stated that the defendants were proven to be legally and convincingly involved in committing a crime that resulted in a fire, thus endangering the public safety of people and goods.

"Also involved in criminal acts that resulted in fires, explosions, or floods that endangered the public safety of people or goods," said Hendra, quoted by Antara, Thursday, July 23.

In the ruling, the judge sentenced Muhammad Zaky Hafizh and Wildan Mufti Magi to four months in prison for incitement. Meanwhile, the defendants Alif Muhammad Rifda, Muhammad Zidan Purnama, and Arif Maulana were each sentenced to seven months in prison.

Agil Riza Rahmawan was sentenced to six months and 15 days in prison, while Farid Hamdan Syakiron was sentenced to seven months and 15 days in prison. Two non-student defendants, namely Chairul Rizal who works as a mechanic in a workshop were sentenced to eight months in prison, and Muhammad Abdul Aziz who works as a street performer was sentenced to seven months in prison.

As for the other three defendants, namely Prianka Nugraha, Jaya Tama Sianturi, and Josua Septian Sihombing, they have not received a verdict and will only undergo a reading of the verdict at the next trial agenda.

In his consideration, the judge considered that the aggravating factor for the defendants' actions was the damage to the Serang Police Traffic Unit Post so that it could not be reused.

"Meanwhile, the mitigating factors include that the defendants have never been convicted, have been cooperative during the trial, and most of them are still active students," he said.

The panel of judges set the period of detention that the defendants had served to be reduced entirely from the sentence imposed. On this verdict, the defendants' legal team stated that they accepted the decision of the panel of judges.
