Trump Confident Iran Conflict Will Not Affect US Midterm Elections

JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump said the situation regarding Iran would not affect the results of the congressional midterm elections in November.

"It won't affect me. I'll just do the right thing," Trump said, quoted by Sputnik, Wednesday, July 22.

Ahead of June 18, Tehran and Washington signed a memorandum that set the end of the conflict that had begun since February 28.

However, since July 8, US forces have launched a series of attacks on Iran.

The US Central Command (US Central Command) stated that the attacks were a response to Iran's actions against a number of commercial vessels crossing the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian forces also retaliated by attacking US bases in the Middle East.

Then on July 12, Iran announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, urging the US intervention in the region to end, following a new wave of mutual attacks between the conflicting parties.

The next day, Trump declared the United States would act as a "guardian" of the Strait of Hormuz. He also reimposed a US blockade on Iranian ports.

In November 2026, the United States will hold midterm congressional elections. According to a number of analysts, the Republican Party risks losing control of the US House of Representatives, which will switch to the Democratic Party.

Experts attribute the risk of a majority loss in Congress to declining public satisfaction with the government amid military operations against Iran as well as rising prices.
