US Proposes Maduro Trial to Begin June 2027

JAKARTA - The United States Department of Justice proposed that the trial of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro begin in June 2027, as stated in a court document obtained by RIA Novosti.

"Therefore, the parties jointly propose the following schedule for the process of submitting evidence, filing a pretrial motion, and trial .... The trial begins: June 2027," reads the document addressed to Judge Alvin Hellerstein from US Attorney Jay Clayton dllansir ANTARA from Sputnik, Wednesday, July 22.

On January 3, 2026, the United States launched a large-scale operation in Venezuela, which resulted in the arrest of Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, before the two were flown to New York.

US President Donald Trump said the two would face trial on charges of involvement in a "drug terrorism" case.

In front of a New York court, Maduro and Flores denied all charges and declared themselves innocent.
