Commission IX of the DPR respects the decision to resign as head of BGN: Momentum for Improving MBG Governance

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of Commission IX of the House of Representatives, Charles Honoris, responded to the news of Nanik S Deyang's resignation as Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN). Charles respects Nanik's decision to focus on his health.

"I respect Ibu Nanik's decision to resign for health reasons. I pray that she will be able to undergo treatment smoothly and recover soon," Charles told reporters, Wednesday, July 22.

However, according to him, the change of leadership of the BGN should not be seen as merely a change of figures. "What is much more important is the momentum to carry out a thorough improvement in the governance of the Free Nutritional Meal Program," said the head of the DPR commission which partnered with the BGN.

Charles said that so far the public has seen various problems in the implementation of MBG, ranging from mass poisoning cases, governance issues, to alleged conflicts of interest.

Therefore, according to him, whoever leads BGN into the future must dare to evaluate and re-design the program to be more targeted, safer, more accountable, and in accordance with the fiscal capacity of the country.

"We in Commission IX of the DPR will certainly continue to carry out oversight functions to ensure that this leadership change is the beginning of improvement, not just a change of office," said Charles.

"The most important thing is not just who is leading, but whether the people really benefit from this program safely, effectively, and sustainably," concluded the PDIP legislator.
