Improve Travel Assistant, Google Maps Tests Smart Cross-App Feature

Google is testing the integration of the Gemini artificial intelligence-based Personal Intelligence feature into the Google Maps navigation application. This step allows the application to automatically access relevant data from various Google services such as Gmail, Google Photos, Google Calendar, and Google Drive.

The findings were revealed through code analysis on the beta trial version of Google Maps version 26.30.00.950492155 by Android Authority. The code in the application shows that Google plans to connect its navigation system directly into the user's Google Workspace data ecosystem to simplify travel planning.

The Personal Intelligence feature itself has been operating in several other Google services. This system allows Gemini to pull contextual information across applications without treating each service as an isolated platform. Google's official support document notes that the services that support this feature include Contacts, Google Photos, YouTube, Google Search, and Google Workspace applications.

Although Google has not made an official announcement regarding the user interface, this integration is expected to be present through the Ask Maps feature. This feature is a conversation-based search tool that helps users find locations and answer questions about travel.

Through this integration, Ask Maps can retrieve information such as flight confirmations, hotel booking schedules, and restaurant reservations directly from Gmail or Google Drive. In addition, integration with Google Photos helps users rediscover locations or landmarks that have been photographed before based on location data in photos.

The trial version of the Google Maps app also shows the presence of a new settings button on the account menu, namely "Connected Content apps" and "Personalization". The presence of the control button confirms that Google is actively developing the interface before the official launch to the public.
