JAKARTA - House of Representatives (DPR) Chairwoman Puan Maharani officially closed the V Session Year 2025-2026 in the Plenary Meeting today.

In his speech, Puan said the DPR would monitor the anticipation of the impact of extreme weather due to El Nino until the evaluation of the doctor internship program which had recently caused various problems.

Puan stated that the DPR together with the Government continues to carry out its duties and functions in the field of legislation optimally with guidance from the National Legislation Program (Prolegnas).

According to Puan, the DPR has evaluated Prolegnas by referring to national legal needs. He revealed that there were 69 Draft Laws in the Third Priority Change Prolegnas 2026 and as many as 199 Draft Laws for the Fourth Change Prolegnas Draft Laws for 2025-2029.

During this trial, the DPR has completed 5 Draft Laws (RUU) to become Laws (UU) and approved 17 RUU to become DPR RI Initiative Proposals. During the next trial, said Puan, the DPR RI together with the Government will continue to discuss 11 RUU which are currently still in the I Level Talks.

"One of the draft laws that has been approved into law is the draft law on the Indonesian International Financial Center. This law is expected to increase Indonesia's competitiveness as an international financial center and strengthen the contribution of the financial sector to the national economy," said Puan, Tuesday, July 21.

Meanwhile, in terms of the budget, Puan said the DPR RI together with the Government had agreed on the Macro Economic Framework and Fiscal Policy Elements (KEM-PPKF) for 2027. The results of the discussion will be a guide and basis for the Government to formulate the direction of macroeconomic economic policies and fiscal policies to overcome the national development disparity that will later be contained in the Budgetary Financial Note for the 2027 Fiscal Year.

"The DPR RI emphasizes that every rupiah allocated by the Government in the State Budget is a trust of the people. Every rupiah must return to the people, feel the benefits and enjoy the results by the people; in the form of real welfare for all Indonesian people," said Puan.

Then in carrying out the oversight function, Puan said that during this trial, the DPR RI through the DPR RI Haji Oversight Team (Timwas) had carried out oversight, both during the preparation and implementation of the hajj.

Puan revealed that the DPR through the Council Equipment (AKD) had held a Hearing Meeting regarding several issues of concern to the public. Among others, strengthening the digital literacy program for the community to the remote areas, the salary budget of Government Employees with Work Agreements (PPPK) through a joint policy between the center and the regions.

"Then there is the case of fraud in the umrah congregation, anticipating the impact of the prolonged El Nino on national food security, accelerating the development of infrastructure for a piece of railway line, highways, and footpaths," explained Puan.

Puan added, the DPR also oversees the evaluation of digital trade policies and consumer protection, the evaluation of Indonesian national standard regulations (SNI) to increase the competitiveness of national products, and protection of women and children who are victims of violence.

"Evaluating the work system of participants in the internship program for doctors at health facilities, evaluating the implementation of the New Student Admission System (SPMB), the government's readiness to build the Indonesian International Financial Center (PFII) to attract foreign investment, comprehensive reform of the management of oil and gas and electricity to meet the needs of the community, and the prevention of the circulation of narcotics, psychotropic substances and prohibited drugs from within the correctional institution (prison)," he said.

Puan also explained about the DPR's oversight function in the context of handling the Sumatra disaster. "The DPR Post-Disaster Recovery Task Force has held a coordination meeting with the Government to discuss the acceleration of the rehabilitation and reconstruction stages," said Puan.
