National Electric Motorcycle to be Launched Soon, the Palace Aims to Reduce Fuel Consumption

JAKARTA - The government will launch a national electric motorcycle produced by the nation's children in the near future. The project is not only aimed at strengthening the automotive industry, but also reducing Indonesia's dependence on fossil-based fuel.

Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said the launch of the national electric motorcycle would soon be announced to the public.

"In the near future, there will probably be some kind of national launch of electric motorcycles, the work of the nation's children," said Prasetyo at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Tuesday, July 21.

He has not explained the name of the product, manufacturer, level of domestic content, price, production capacity, nor the exact time of its launch.

Prasetyo said the project showed Indonesia's ability to develop its own electric vehicles. However, he admitted that the product may still have a number of shortcomings.

"If we have the will and desire, the Indonesian nation will be able to achieve it. If there are still some shortcomings, let's work together to improve it," he said.

According to Prasetyo, the benefits of national electric motorcycles do not stop at the automotive industry. The government also sees it as part of efforts to reduce fossil-based fuel consumption.

"This is part of reducing our dependence on fossil fuel consumption," he said.

The government has not said whether the electric motorcycle will receive incentives, be used for official needs, or be marketed directly to the public.
