CPOB Certification Becomes an Important Standard to Guarantee the Quality of Medicines in Indonesia

JAKARTA - The quality of medicines is one aspect that cannot be negotiated in the health service system. Behind every drug that circulates in the market, there is a series of production, testing, and supervision processes that aim to ensure that the product is safe, effective, and has consistent quality before being used by the community.

In Indonesia, the standard is known as Good Manufacturing Practice (CPOB). This certification issued by the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) is a reference for the pharmaceutical industry in implementing a production system that meets quality requirements at every stage of drug manufacture.

The implementation of CPOB not only covers the production process, but also includes facility management, raw material quality control, cleanliness of the production environment, human resource competence, documentation, and distribution systems.

The entire process is designed to minimize the risk of contamination, production errors, and differences in product quality.

With the growing pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical industries, the implementation of good production standards is also considered important to strengthen Indonesia's competitiveness. In addition to supporting the availability of domestic health products, the standard is one of the requirements for pharmaceutical products to meet regulations in various countries.

Efforts to strengthen the quality of pharmaceutical manufacturing continue to be carried out by various industry players. One of them is shown by PT Selatox Bio Pharma which has just obtained the Good Manufacturing Practice (CPOB) certification from BPOM and inaugurated the biopharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Cikarang, West Java.

The acquisition of the certification indicates that the company's production facilities and quality management systems have met the standards set by regulators.

Its manufacturing facilities are equipped with sterile production areas, manufacturing technology, and a quality control system that oversees every stage, from raw material receipt, production processes, laboratory testing, to product distribution.

Selatox Chief Executive Officer, Joh Young Hoon, said that this achievement is part of the company's efforts to build a production system that prioritizes quality.

"The acquisition of CPOB certification from the Indonesian Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) is an important achievement for us. This certification confirms that our manufacturing facilities and quality management systems have met the established standards,"

He added that the company will also continue to invest in human resource development and the application of manufacturing technology to support the growth of the biopharmaceutical industry in Indonesia.

The government also continues to encourage the increase in the production capacity of drugs in the country as part of efforts to strengthen national health resilience.

According to the Special Staff for Health System Transformation, Ministry of Health, Republic of Indonesia, Agus Tjahajana Wirakusumah, strengthening the pharmaceutical industry is one of the important steps in realizing the independence of the health sector.

"In line with the agenda for transforming the health system, the government continues to encourage the realization of national health resilience through strengthening domestic production capacity, technology mastery, and increasing collaboration between the government, industry, and educational institutions. The presence of manufacturing facilities such as PT. Selatox Bio Pharma is expected to support Indonesia's pharmaceutical independence while improving the competitiveness of the national health industry," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of BPOM RI Taruna Ikrar assessed that the implementation of the CPOB standard is one of the important indicators in maintaining the quality of pharmaceutical products produced in Indonesia.

For the public, the existence of standards such as CPOB may not be seen directly when taking medicine.
