Ojol Driver Status as an MSME Has Not Been Decided, the Palace is Still Looking for a Meeting Point

JAKARTA - The government has not decided on plans to include online motorcycle taxi drivers or ojol into the micro, small, and medium business group. The proposal is still being discussed along with a number of other policies in the draft presidential regulation regarding ojol.

Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said that the idea conveyed by the Minister of MSME was only a discourse.

"Not yet. What the Minister of MSME conveyed is one of the discourses that we are discussing together," said Prasetyo at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Tuesday, July 21.

According to Prasetyo, the government is still looking for a formula that can regulate driver protection while maintaining the sustainability of online transportation companies.

The discussion covers income, driver rights, and the future certainty of workers in the transportation services sector.

"We have to find the formula, we have to find the common point," he said.

Prasetyo said the government wanted one rule to protect all parties in the online transportation ecosystem.

He said the company's condition must also be taken into account because certain changes can affect business and service performance.

In the midst of the discussion, Prasetyo admitted that he received a report that the policy of cutting the application fee to 8 percent was already in effect.

The government also received reports that a number of ojol drivers had felt the benefits of the policy.

"Parallel, we are all working on it," he said.

Prasetyo has not said when the draft presidential regulation on ojol will be completed and published.
