WBC World Champion Dalton Smith Challenges Alberto Puello in Sheffield

JAKARTA - WBC super lightweight world champion Dalton Smith will undergo his first title defense by facing former world champion from the Dominican Republic, Alberto Puello.

The fight is scheduled to take place in Sheffield, England, on October 24, 2026. This duel is Smith's 20th professional match and an opportunity to defend his undefeated record in front of his own public.

Smith won the world champion belt in January 2026 after an impressive victory over Subriel Matias in a fight in New York.

The meeting with Puello was actually scheduled to take place in June 2026. However, Smith's injury during training camp forced the fight to be postponed.

"I'm really happy that this fight has finally been rescheduled and we'll defend my WBC world title on October 24, 2026 in Sheffield," Smith said as reported by BBC.

The 29-year-old boxer confirmed that he had fully recovered and was back in training for Puello.

"Injuries are part of boxing. Now I'm recovered, back training, and ready to fight again," he said.

In addition to the Smith versus Puello fight, the British boxing stage will also be enlivened by Ben Whittaker's action.

The 29-year-old boxer will be hunting for an opportunity to challenge the light heavyweight world title by facing Australian boxer Conor Wallace.

Whittaker is scheduled to appear in the IBF eliminator in Birmingham on October 3, 2026. The fight is an opportunity for him to fight again in his homeland after making his debut in the United States in June 2026.

Meanwhile, Matchroom Boxing promoters have also confirmed an undercard cruiserweight bout between young prospect Pat Brown and British champion John Hedges.

The two will fight for the British and Commonwealth champion belts in Manchester on September 19, 2026.

Brown, 26, is touted as one of England's most promising talents. He has recorded six wins from six professional fights, all of which were won by KO.
