China Open 2026: Daughter Wants to Reach the Semifinals

JAKARTA - Putri Kusuma Wardani has set a target of reaching the 2026 China Open semi-finals after she managed to overcome the host's shuttlecock Han Qian Xi to secure a ticket to the second round of the Super 1000-level event.

The 24-year-old shuttler ensured he survived the tournament by beating his opponent in a straight two-game match 21-16 and 21-16 at the Changzhou Olympic Sports Centre, China, on Tuesday, July 21, 2026.

"I have never reached the semifinals of the Super 1000 and hopefully I can here. The first target was then," said the badminton player born in Tangerang in an official statement received by pascalaga.

Putri, who is ranked as the sixth seed in this tournament, filled the draw chart which gave him the opportunity to reach that phase. The opponents he will face in the second round and the quarter finals are definitely not seeded players.

He will meet Busanan Ongbamrungphan or Devika Sihag in the second round and Tomoka Miyazaki, Line Hojmark Kjaersfeldt, Karupathevan Letshanaa, or Beiwen Zhang in the quarterfinals.

"By looking at the draw chart, there should be enough opportunities, but I shouldn't underestimate anyone because this is the Super 1000 level, let's focus one by one," said Putri.

If he can make it that far, Putri, as the only Indonesian female singles player to play in China, will most likely meet the host's fourth seed Chen Yufei or Thailand's seventh seed Ratchanok Intanon.

Pusarla V Sindhu is also one of the heavyweights that Putri can face if she can make it to the top four. The Indian badminton player is in good form to win the Japan Open 2026 at the weekend.

When appearing at the 2026 BWF Super 750 Japan Open last week, Putri's journey stalled in the semifinals. He was eliminated at that stage after losing to Akane Yamaguchi.
