JAKARTA - PT Isuzu Astra Motor Indonesia (IAMI) has made an important achievement by successfully producing 300,000 units of vehicles at the Isuzu Karawang Plant (IKP), Karawang, West Java. This achievement was achieved within 10 years since the manufacturing facility began operating in 2015, and at the same time confirming Isuzu's role as a commercial vehicle manufacturer that is able to meet global market standards.
President Director of PT Isuzu Astra Motor Indonesia (IAMI) Masayasu Hideshima, said the success was the result of the collaboration of all employees as well as the support of business partners who have been part of Isuzu's journey in Indonesia.
"The achievement of 300,000 units at the Isuzu Karawang Plant is an important milestone in the journey of PT Isuzu Astra Motor Indonesia. Since it started operating in 2015, this plant has developed into a global standard manufacturing facility that is the pride of Indonesia as well as an important part of Isuzu's global production network," said Hideshima, quoted from the official statement, Tuesday, July 21.
This achievement is also a picture of Isuzu's contribution to the national automotive industry. In addition to supporting the growth of the commercial vehicle sector, the company is considered to play a role in increasing the level of domestic components (TKDN), contributing to taxes, facilitating the activities of various business sectors, to generating foreign exchange through exports.
Currently, the Isuzu Karawang Plant produces a number of commercial vehicle models, such as the Isuzu ELF, Isuzu GIGA, and Isuzu Traga, which are the models with the largest production volume. The facility also assembles UD Trucks vehicles, namely UD Quester and UD Kuzer, to meet the needs of the domestic market.
In an effort to strengthen the national automotive industry, Isuzu continues to increase the use of local components. Currently, Isuzu Traga's TKDN has reached 46.45 percent, followed by Isuzu GIGA at 38.07 percent, and Isuzu ELF at 33.04 percent.
The increase in local content also has an economic impact, ranging from the absorption of 884 employees to encouraging technology transfer to domestic suppliers so that they are able to meet Isuzu's global quality standards.
Not only meeting the demand of the Indonesian market, the Isuzu Karawang Plant is also the production base for the export market. Since starting to ship vehicles abroad in 2019, products from this plant have been shipped to 25 countries, including Japan, South Africa, the Philippines, and Panama.
"Customer trust, government support, suppliers, dealers, and the dedication of all employees are the main foundations that allow us to achieve this achievement. We will continue to improve product quality, strengthen the competitiveness of national manufacturing, increase export contributions, and present commercial vehicles that can become the best business partners for customers in Indonesia and the global market," concluded Hideshima.
Going forward, Isuzu is committed to continuing to improve its production quality to meet the needs of both the domestic and international markets. The company will also present commercial vehicles that meet the needs of Isuzu Partners, as well as be ready to face increasingly stringent emission regulations through the implementation of more environmentally friendly technologies.
With a production of 300,000 units, the Isuzu Karawang Plant further strengthens its position as a world-class manufacturing facility that produces Isuzu and UD Trucks branded vehicles. The company also targets increased product competitiveness to be able to meet the needs of various countries while complying with regulations applicable in each market.
