Mercedes-Maybach GLS680 2027 Officially Showed Off, Its Luxury is Hard to Match
JAKARTA - Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) has just revealed all the details of the 2027 Mercedes-Maybach GLS680 flagship SUV model.
The 2027 Mercedes-Maybach GLS680 is expected to be sold starting at a price range of US$185,000 (around Rp3.3 billion) when it officially launches in the global market at the end of 2026.
This introduction comes after the public first saw the standard version of the GLS to the high-performance surprise of the AMG GLS63, now it's the Maybach division's turn to showcase the elegance and advanced refinement of the German manufacturer's largest SUV.
The second generation of the Maybach adaptation on the GLS platform gives a very strong first impression, especially on the front fascia. The typical Maybach vertical-striped grille now looks bigger, heavier, and more loaded with exclusive chrome luster.
Interestingly, Mercedes added new lighting elements that surround the grille frame, the Maybach emblem, to the three-legged star emblem above the hood. This visual feature ensures that anyone will immediately recognize the presence of the GLS680 even in the dark of night.
If you look closely, the rose gold-colored accent light complements the cluster of main lights with the three-star logo. The lower bumper is also beautified with a unique chrome underguard and optional Maybach logo ornaments on the left and right air ducts. Moving to the back, subtle revisions can be seen on the luggage line lights and the lower fascia, especially the redesigned exhaust pipe.
One sector that attracts the most attention is the Maybach chrome monoblock wheel rim measuring 23 inches. The wheel is equipped with a sophisticated ball bearing technology center dop, making the Mercedes logo always perfectly perpendicular when the car rolls.
The exterior luxury of the Maybach is not complete without a two-tone paint scheme. The latest signature color combination introduced is a graceful combination of Verde Silver Metallic on the top and Dark Petrol Uni on the bottom, separated by a very precise pin line.
This painting process is carried out with very high standards of expertise - even Maybach has a special staff whose job is only to apply gold flakes manually. For consumers who want an eccentric combination such as purple and pink, the Manufaktur Made to Measure customization program is ready to fulfill it as long as funds are available.
Premium Cabin: MBUX Superscreen & First Class Comfort
Entering the GLS680 cabin is now more practical thanks to the automatic Maybach-branded running board that comes out in just 1 second. Inside, the interior is wrapped in ultra-luxurious Crystal White leather that competes closely with the Rolls-Royce Cullinan interior.
Maybach also provides a choice of wood trims and new materials such as Beech Brown, Macchiato Beige, and High-Gloss Silver Metallic Mixed Fabric.
In the dashboard area, the most radical update is seen in the presence of MBUX Superscreen technology powered by Mercedes' latest operating system, MB.OS. This massive glass screen stretches from the driver's side to the front passenger with a graceful Rose Gold-accentuated digital display.
The biggest attraction of the Mercedes-Maybach GLS680 lies in the second row through the Executive Seat configuration. The passenger side rear seats can be reclined to the maximum by sliding the front seat far forward. For the first time, there is a calf massager feature to pamper your feet after shopping, complete with a back massager and footrest on all four seats.
Rear passengers are also pampered with a pair of 11.6-inch tablet screens, a smartphone-sized wireless controller, and a wireless charging pad. Not to forget, the classic Maybach equipment such as a glass of pure silver-plated champagne and a built-in cooling refrigerator is still present on the center console.
The audio sector is also improved through the Burmester 3D sound system with the addition of two speakers in the back that have an artistically styled custom cover, supported by a 710 watt amplifier.
V-8 Engine More Powerful and Silent
The 2027 Maybach GLS680's performance sector relies on the latest generation of 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine that is tuned similarly to the AMG GLS63 version. This engine is capable of spitting out 603 horsepower and 627 lb-ft (850 Nm) of torque - a significant increase of 53 hp and 89 lb-ft compared to the previous model.
The assistance of the integrated starter generator (ISG) system allows this giant SUV to sprint from 0 to 96 km/h in about 4.0 seconds. This fierce engine performance is balanced by extra tight cabin damping and advanced Airmatic and E-Active Body Control suspension features to perfectly dampen road shocks. The typical Maybach Drive Mode is also present to present the acceleration and transmission of power as smooth as silk.
