DSI Not to be a Single Exporter, Only Acts as a Selling Agent

JAKARTA - Danantara Strategic Indonesia or DSI will not take over all national commodity exports. The company is prepared as a selling agent, while exporters can still transact directly with buyers abroad.

Head of the Investment Management Agency, Rosan Roeslani, emphasized that DSI is not the only company that can export.

"Exports can still be direct. We are just a sales agent," said Rosan at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Monday (20/7).

The statement answered questions about the possibility of DSI becoming the sole export SOE after the monitoring system is fully implemented. According to Rosan, the next stage does lead to the function of a sales agent, not an export monopoly.

Exporters are still allowed to carry out contracts and deal with foreign buyers. The name of the DSI will be included in the transaction to ensure that the government can monitor prices and trade flows.

"Sales of all kinds can be done in full. They have long-term contracts, please," he said.

Rosan said the main objective of the scheme was to detect under-invoicing practices or reporting transaction values lower than the actual price.

The government will compare the selling price with the market index. This mechanism is mainly applied to coal exports, palm oil, ferroalloys, and their derivative products.

Rosan has not explained the amount of remuneration for DSI as a selling agent, the legal basis for his appointment, or the stages of implementing the scheme.
