5 PMI Candidates Escape Broken Trellis At Malang CKS Work Center, Mayor Sutiaji Gives Warning

MALANG - The Malang City Government will conduct an investigation regarding the licensing of the Job Training Center (BLK) of PT Central Karya Semesta (CKS) following the escape of 5 prospective Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI).

Malang Mayor Sutiaji admitted that he had heard about the escape of five PMI candidates by breaking through the railing on the fourth floor of the PT CKS building, and descending using a rope made from pieces of blankets.

"I condemn any actions that harm the community. I have called (the agency) to check (licenses)," said Sutiaji in Malang City, East Java, Friday, June 11, as reported by Antara.

Sutiaji explained that the CKS Job Training Center is one of the Indonesian Migrant Worker Service Distribution Companies (PJTKI) in Malang City. If it is found that PMI candidates are trying to escape, Sutiaji suspects that there are practices that are not in accordance with the rules.

Sutiaji admitted that he did not know the chronology of the PMI candidates who tried to escape from the PT CKS building. Based on information, the PMI candidates had fallen while trying to escape.

It was reported that three people were injured, and two others managed to escape. Three PMI candidates who were injured were immediately taken by residents to the Malang City Regional General Hospital (RSUD) for intensive care.

"This cannot happen if (PT CKS) complies with existing regulations. At that time (PT CKS) had a permit, it was clear they violated the rules and so on," said Sutiaji.

If PT CKS has obtained a permit and carries out practices that are not in accordance with the regulations, the Malang City Government will revoke the company's permit.

"If you make a mistake and make a mistake, there is a legal process. If you (have) a permit, it will be revoked, because it does not comply with existing standard procedures," said Sutiaji.

On the evening of Wednesday, June 9 at around 19.00 WIB, five PMI candidates tried to escape from the PT CKS Job Training Center. They descended from the fourth floor of the building, using ropes made from scraps of blankets.

The PMI candidate who tried to escape fell. Of the five people who tried to escape, three were injured, while two others survived. The five PMI candidates who tried to escape were women.
