Trump Assures Netanyahu He Won't Be Arrested During US Visit

JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump stated that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will not be arrested during his visit to the US.

This statement responds to the latest comments from Zohran Mamdani, the Mayor of New York, who said his office was considering arresting the prime minister during the UN General Assembly in September.

"Benjamin Netanyahu will not be arrested, in any way or form, while in the United States. He is fighting the Islamic Republic of Iran, which recently killed 52,000 innocent protesters, and has spent the last 47 years killing American soldiers and others," Trump said in a post on Truth Social.

Mamdani said in a podcast that his administration's legal department is actively discussing the possibility of arresting Netanyahu - a step he had promised to pursue during the campaign.

"I argue that Prime Minister Netanyahu should be tried in The Hague," Mamdani said in a program titled "The Interview".

"He is a war criminal who has been indicted by the International Criminal Court (ICC), and you will find this view shared by many simply because of the impact of his actions over the years," Mamdani said.

When asked what he thought the law allowed him to do, Mamdani replied: "It is being actively discussed with our legal department. However, what we see at the national level is sometimes a desire to make their own rules, or act outside the boundaries of applicable laws. That is not something we want to do."
