170 Thousand People Affected by Floods in India

JAKARTA - More than 170,000 people were affected by floods triggered by monsoon rains in the northeastern Indian state of Assam.

The Indian Express on Monday, July 20, reported that the eastern region of Assam was the most affected when five rivers overflowed above the danger threshold on Monday morning.

According to the report, as reported by ANTARA from Sputnik, a number of residential buildings were damaged and agricultural land suffered losses.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the local government had asked the Indian military and air force to remain on standby to carry out evacuation and rescue operations if needed.

The overflow of the Dikhow River also disrupted train services because some parts of the tracks were flooded.

Meanwhile, two train schedules were canceled and six routes were diverted.
