Pramono Admits to Being Mocked by His Wife after Argentina Lost to Spain in the 2026 World Cup Final
JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung admitted that he was the target of his wife's criticism after the Argentine national team he supported lost 0-1 to Spain in the 2026 World Cup final.
Pramono said he watched the match live until the end. Meanwhile, his wife supported Spain which finally emerged as world champions.
"Because last night the Governor also watched the ball, that's it, the jagonya lost again. Mr. Governor is the jagonya of Argentina, Mrs. Governor is the jagonya of Spain. He lost again. So sleepy," said Pramono at the DKI Jakarta City Hall, Monday, July 20.
Although he advocated for Argentina, Pramono considered Spain's victory to be deserved. According to him, the Matador team appeared more dominant throughout the match and was able to control the game from the start.
"The match yesterday was really exciting, even though Spain was dominant and I watched the whole thing," he said.
Pramono also admitted that Argentina had difficulty getting out of Spain's pressure. In fact, according to him, Spain's dominance was visible before the match entered extra time.
"Indeed, from the material and also from the strategy, if Argentina loses 1-0 to Spain, I think it is deserved, because indeed almost before the extension (time), what is it, it was completely locked. And indeed Spain is amazing, the players are young," said Pramono.
Spain finally became world champions in the 2026 World Cup final. After winning the trophy at the 2010 World Cup, Spain did it now when defeating Argentina, who were the defending champions. In the match at the New Jersey Stadium, New York, USA, Monday, July 20, 2026 WIB, Spain won 1-0 through Ferran Torres' goal in extra time.
At the 2020 World Cup in South Africa, Spain defeated the Netherlands 1-0 with a goal from Barcelona star Andres Iniesta in the 116th minute of extra time.
Interestingly, the same situation happened in this year's final. Spain's victory was determined by Torres, who scored in the 106th minute of extra time. Coincidentally, this Torres also played for Barca.
Spain also won the doubles title. Previously, La Roja with the same coach, Luis de la Fuente won Euro 2024. In the final match, they won 2-1 over England who were ranked third in the 2026 World Cup.
In the previous era, Spain became the European champion in 2008 and then became world champion in the following two years. They even continued their success at Euro 2012 after returning to the championship.
Meanwhile, Argentina must end their luck at the World Cup. During the knockout round, Lionel Scaloni's team was more often blessed with luck. They are considered lucky to get rid of Egypt 3-2 in the 16th round. Likewise in the semifinals, Argentina should have lost to England. However, they were able to bounce back after falling behind 1-0 and turning to win 2-1.
In that match, Spain completely dominated from the first minute. Only the barrage of attacks led by young star Lamine Yamal always crashed into the Argentine defense line.
An irony because Spain fired 20 shots on goal during the match with normal time. Meanwhile, Argentina didn't do it at all.
The situation got worse for Argentina when midfielder Enzo Fernandez got a second yellow card followed by a red card for a hard foul on defender Pau Cubarsi in injury time. Even though playing with 10 men, Argentina was still able to hold Spain 0-0 until the end of the match.
