Giant Eagle Cuts Prices on 300 Products, Trump Asks Other Supermarkets to Follow

JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump praised Giant Eagle after the supermarket chain announced price cuts on more than 300 products throughout the summer to Labor Day.

Anadolu Agency, quoted on Monday, July 20, said Trump considered Giant Eagle's move could help ease the spending of working families in the United States. He compared it to a similar pricing policy run by Walmart.

"I just learned that Giant Eagle, a great American grocery company, will be lowering prices massively on over 300 products this summer through Labor Day to help working American families," Trump wrote via his Truth Social account.

Giant Eagle is a supermarket chain based in Pittsburgh. Trump said the company had responded to his call for businesses to help reduce the cost of living.

"Giant Eagle, like Walmart, is taking a big and bold step to answer my call to lower costs for working families," he said.

Trump then asked other supermarket chains to follow suit by cutting prices.

He also claimed his government had helped lower the prices of a number of essential needs, including gasoline, eggs, and prescription drugs.

"We will continue to lower prices, such as oil, gasoline, eggs, and prescription drugs, which all fell quickly after the disaster we inherited from Sleepy Joe Biden," Trump said.

In the statement, Trump again blamed the Joe Biden administration for inflation and rising living costs.
