FIFA Earns Rp244 Trillion from the 2026 World Cup, the Highest Record in History
JAKARTA - FIFA has recorded the highest revenue in history from the 2026 World Cup. The world football federation announced that total revenue reached US $ 15 billion or around Rp. 244 trillion, far exceeding the initial target of US $ 11 billion.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino conveyed the achievement to all FIFA member associations on Saturday, July 18. The surge in revenue was mainly driven by the sale of match tickets and hospitality packages for spectators in the stadium.
In addition to official sales, ticket transactions through the secondary market at a much higher price are also one of FIFA's sources of income. In this scheme, FIFA receives a commission of 15 percent from buyers and 15 percent from sellers on each ticket transaction.
With revenues exceeding the target, FIFA member associations are expected to receive additional allocations. However, so far FIFA has not established a mechanism for sharing the revenue.
Ahead of the 2026 World Cup final between Spain and Argentina in New Jersey, United States, FIFA is also still offering a number of VIP and hospitality packages. One of the most exclusive packages, the Trophy Lounge, is sold for US$34,500 or around Rp561 million per person, making it one of the most expensive football match tickets ever marketed by FIFA.
The success of recording this fantastic revenue is considered to further strengthen Gianni Infantino's position amid various controversies that color the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Infantino is said to have received the support of more than 200 FIFA member associations to run again in the FIFA presidential election scheduled for March 2027. The financial achievement of the 2026 World Cup is believed to have strengthened support for his leadership.
On the other hand, the successful organization of this tournament also opens the opportunity for the United States to host the World Cup again in the future. One of the editions that are still open for the bidding process is the 2038 World Cup.
In a welcoming ceremony held on Friday, July 17, US President Donald Trump publicly invited FIFA to re-appoint his country as the host of the World Cup.
