JAKARTA - Indonesian women's singles badminton player Putri Kusuma Wardhani evaluated her physical endurance after being stopped in the semifinals of the 2026 Japan Open.
In the match which took place at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium, Tokyo, Japan, Saturday, Putri admitted the toughness of the Japanese host Akane Yamaguchi's singles through a dramarubber game21-9, 16-21, 14-21.
"For evaluation, I still have to improve my endurance," said Princess KW as quoted from the PBSI website.
Putri admitted that the semifinal match was quite tiring because it drained her energy, physical and mental.
However, the sixth seed in the tournament said his chances were very high to be able to silence Akane in the match.
"To be honest, I felt I had a chance to win earlier but unfortunately in the second game I couldn't keep him up until the end. At 16-16, Akane made a lot of speculation on the shot and slowed down the tempo, it made me a few times shocked," said Putri KW.
"In the third game I made a series of mistakes at the same point, on the left of Akane's defense, which had a significant impact on the rest of the match," he added.
Even though he was stopped in the semifinals, Putri admitted that he was quite satisfied with his performance in the BWF Super 750 tournament.
According to Putri, one of the promising achievements was defeating China's Wang Zhi Yi in the quarterfinals which took place on Friday.
"I learned a lot from the results at the Indonesia Open, from a month of preparation I really focused on training. As a result, I feel that here I can continue to show consistent play and fighting spirit that is better than before," said Putri regarding her performance which is believed to have improved in the 2026 Japan Open.
With Putri's defeat, Indonesia's badminton team in the women's singles sector at the 2026 Japan Open has also been confirmed to have ended because there is no other representative.
