US to Form Agency to Evaluate AI Security

JAKARTA - The Donald Trump administration is exploring the possibility of establishing an independent regulatory body to review the security of artificial intelligence (AI) models, according to a Bloomberg report.

The plan was drawn up after executives in Silicon Valley expressed their dissatisfaction with a number of sudden steps, which the US recently took, to slow down the adoption of advanced AI systems, the report said.

As reported by ANTARA from Sputnik, Saturday, July 18, according to several sources, the independent regulatory body that will be similar to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), will be under the auspices of the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

The plan, which is being developed in conjunction with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, is currently being reviewed by White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles.

A source said Trump had not reviewed the plan.

The new mechanism will allow representatives from both industries to play a more significant role in the joint development of AI security standards.

At the end of June, AI developer Anthropic announced that the US government had restored access to its most powerful AI model, Mythos 5, to several US security agencies.

Previously, the US blocked access to the company's Mythos 5 and Fable 5 models for governments and foreign citizens on national security grounds.

Artificial intelligence is a key element in President Donald Trump's agenda to maintain the US's technological edge, ensure economic competitiveness, and strengthen national security.
