Tehran Opens Door to Further Talks, but Demands US No Longer Make Mistakes
JAKARTA - Iran - even though it no longer trusts Washington - demands guarantees from the United States not to repeat the same "mistakes" as during negotiations.
"We welcome dialogue and negotiations. However, the mediators must seriously fulfill their responsibilities, namely to give us assurances that the US will not repeat its mistakes. Unfortunately, so far, they (the mediators) have not succeeded," the head of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, Ebrahim Azizi, told RIA Novosti.
According to him, Washington must gain trust because Iran has been attacked several times during the negotiation process.
"The whole world is witnessing this. A number of countries acting as mediators, considering this fact, must urge the US to admit its mistake," said the member of parliament.
"Iran has always proposed negotiations, but if the US continues to violate its commitments, Tehran will also not feel the need to abide by any agreement," Azizi said.
Azizi added that the US "has caused this mistrust." Head of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Iranian Parliament Ebrahim Azizi, to RIA Novosti.
Previously, Tehran and Washington signed a remote memorandum of understanding on June 18 to end the military conflict.
However, since July 8, US forces have carried out a series of attacks against Iran.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) claimed the attack was in response to Iran's actions against a number of merchant vessels crossing the Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian forces then retaliated by attacking several US bases in the Middle East region.
