BANDA ACEH - Personnel from the Pidie Police Criminal Investigation Unit, Aceh, arrested a suspect in a corruption case involving village funds who had been on the run for seven years while working as a coffee farmer.
Head of the Pidie Police Criminal Investigation Unit, Iptu Mirzan, said the suspect with the initials K. The suspect was arrested in Bener Meriah Regency, Thursday (16/7) at 23.00 WIB.
"K was on the wanted list or DPO and became a police fugitive for seven years. When arrested, K became a coffee farmer in Bener Meriah Regency," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, July 17.
K was arrested after officers tracked his whereabouts. K was arrested in Sesongo Village, Alur Gading Village, Pintu Rime Gayo District, Bener Meriah Regency.
Previously, the Pidie Police investigators named K as a suspect in a suspected corruption case in 2019. K is suspected of committing a corruption case for Gampong Mancang village funds, Pidie Regency, in the 2016 and 2017 fiscal years.
During the investigation process, he said, investigators sent a summons to K. However, K never fulfilled the call until he was finally put on the DPO.
Based on the results of the investigation, K was known to have fled to Malaysia for about three years. After returning to Aceh, K moved to several districts.
"Thanks to hard work and continuous investigation, K's whereabouts were finally tracked down. The Pidie Police Criminal Investigation Unit team moved quickly and arrested K without resistance," said Mirzan.
Furthermore, the suspect for alleged corruption in village funds was taken to the Pidie Police in Sigli, the capital of Pidie Regency, to undergo further legal proceedings. The arrest of the suspect who has been on the run for seven years is a commitment of the Pidie Police in investigating the alleged corruption case.
"The Pidie Police confirmed that there is no safe place for perpetrators of corruption and other crimes to avoid legal processes, even though they have tried to escape for years," said Mirzan.
