Police Investigate the Incident of 8 Students Drowning in Cisirupan Garut, One Dead
GARUT - The Garut Police have deployed a team to conduct further investigations related to the incident of eight female students, one of whom died of drowning while swimming in a water reservoir pool in Cisurupan District, Garut Regency, West Java.
"The examination of witnesses, the investigation of the crime scene (scene of the crime), the installation of the police line have been carried out," said Head of Public Relations Section of the Garut Police, Ipda Susilo Adhi, as reported by ANTARA, Friday, July 17.
He said the fatal incident occurred in a water reservoir pond in Cibolang Village, Cidatar Village, Garut, Thursday, (16/7) afternoon.
A total of eight MTs Miftahul Ulum Cigedug students, he said, after school activities immediately swam in the pool, unexpectedly they actually drowned.
"After completing the nature tadabur activity, the students swim," he said.
As a result of the incident, said Adhi, one student, namely Siti Jamilah (14) Class 9 resident of Cigedug District, died, while seven other friends were rescued.
"Seven other students were rescued, while the victim drowned and was declared dead," he said.
The police who received the report of the incident immediately carried out an investigation into the scene of the incident for the purpose of investigation with a provisional result that it was purely due to an accident.
"There is no (criminal element), it is purely an accident," he said.
The victim's family refused to report the incident for further legal processing, and considered it a disaster.
"The family did not want to report and considered this incident as a disaster or fate," he said.
Until now, the police are still installing police lines and emptying the water in the pond so that no one enters the area.
