MotoGP 2026 Championship Competition Tightest in the Modern Era

JAKARTA - The competition for the 2026 MotoGP world championship is the tightest in the history of the modern era of the race in that category after only 24 points separated the top five riders in the provisional standings at the break of the competition.

The world's most prestigious motorcycle racing competition has held 11 Grand Prix (GP) of the 2026 competition season after racing at the weekend at the Sachsenring Circuit, Germany. Currently, the competition is entering a summer break for about a month.

After completing half the season, the map of the competition for the title is also seen as increasingly tight. The thin point difference between the top five riders currently in existence has never been seen in the modern MotoGP era world championship title race so that anything as small as it really affects the second half of the season.

The current situation is completely different when MotoGP finishes the race in Italy at the end of May 2026. At that time, the dream victory at Mugello ensured Marco Bezzecchi firmly led the standings with a 17-point lead over his teammate, Jorge Martin.

After the race, the fight for the 2026 title seems to present a rivalry between Aprilia Racing teammates because of the competitive performance of the RS-GP26 motor they are riding.

At that time, Fabio Di Giannantonio (VR46 Racing Team) was 39 points behind in third place, fourth place was occupied by Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing), and fifth place was occupied by Ai Ogura (SuperFile Trackhouse MotoGP Team).

Raul Fernandez (SuperFile Trackhouse MotoGP Team) is in sixth place with a gap of 86 points, Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) is 91 points behind, and defending champion Marc Marquez is 102 points behind.

Marquez has even dropped out of the title race due to injury. However, how quickly things can change after The Baby Alien, Marquez's nickname, is now sitting in the top three of the standings and is only 18 points behind Martin in the top spot.

This change occurred because in the four Grand Prix that took place after Mugello, Bezzecchi was only able to get 13 points out of 148 points available. A mixture of mistakes and bad luck not only eroded his advantage, but also made him thrown out of the top three of the standings.

This sequence ended with a broken left collarbone after Bezzecchi crashed during the Qualifying session at the Sachsenring. After the peak of glory at Mugello, the Italian rider is now at his lowest point.

The string of bad results that befell Bezzecchi coincided with the improvement in the performance of his rivals. Martin is indeed at the top of the standings and is 14 points ahead, but Ogura and Marc Marquez are two names who are climbing in performance.

Ogura and Marc Marquez have so far successfully claimed the highest podium trophies at the Hungarian GP, Czech Republic GP, Dutch GP and German GP. Marc Marquez won three of the last four races and Ogura won at the Assen Circuit, Netherlands.

The double victory (Sprint and Race) in Germany made Marquez get a maximum of 37 points available. This result makes him back into the title contender list and activates a big boost mode in the second half of the season.

On the other hand, Ogura, who managed to collect 30 points in Brno, Assen, and Sachsenring, raised his position to second in the standings and overshadowed Martin. His recent brilliant performance is in line with his potential to become world champion.

Behind the three names in the top three, there is Marco Bezzecchi who fills the fourth place with a collection of 186 points. He was followed by Fabio "Diggia" Di Giannantonio in fifth place with a collection of 184 points.
