Rice Prices in Jakarta Slightly Increased as of July 16, Red Chili Decreased by 8.7 Percent
JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Food, Maritime, and Agriculture Directorate (KPKP) has recorded that the price of rice in the capital has increased slightly in the last week. On the other hand, a number of horticultural commodities such as chili and red onions have actually experienced a price decline.
Head of the DKI Jakarta KPKP Office Hasudungan Sidabalok said that the weekly increase in strategic food prices was still below 1 percent and only occurred in rice commodities.
"The development of the price of strategic food items between weeks in the DKI Jakarta Province shows an increase of less than 1 percent in some food commodities," said Hasudungan in his statement, Friday, July 16.
The commodities that experienced an increase were IR III (medium) rice and IR I (premium) rice. The price of IR III rice increased by 0.57 percent or Rp79 per kilogram, from Rp13,793 to Rp13,872 per kilogram. Meanwhile, IR I rice increased by 0.31 percent or Rp47 per kilogram, from Rp15,439 to Rp15,486 per kilogram.
In the midst of rising rice prices, the KPKP Office noted that the prices of a number of horticultural commodities actually moved down. The largest decline occurred in red chili.
"Strategic food commodities that have experienced a decrease in price to relatively stable between weeks are horticultural commodities and chicken eggs," he said.
Hasudungan detailed, the price of red chili fell 8.70 percent or Rp5,069 per kilogram, from Rp58,289 to Rp53,220 per kilogram. Then red cayenne pepper fell 7.33 percent or Rp4,808 per kilogram, from Rp65,639 to Rp60,830 per kilogram.
Meanwhile, the price of red onions also fell 3.89 percent or Rp2,084 per kilogram, from Rp53,527 to Rp51,443 per kilogram. Meanwhile, the price of chicken eggs is still monitored to be stable with an average of Rp26,829 per kilogram.
The price movement shows that the supply of a number of horticultural commodities in Jakarta is still under control even though the price of rice has started to experience a slight increase in the last week.
