Heartbroken to be asked to break up, Singaporean WN kills a woman in Denpasar

DENPASAR - The Denpasar Police revealed a case of alleged murder committed by a Singaporean citizen with the initials MZ (25) against an Indonesian woman with the initials AS in South Denpasar, Bali.

Wakapolresta Denpasar AKBP I Ketut Widiarta explained that the victim is estimated to have died on Friday (10/7) at around 04.00 Wita after getting into an argument with the perpetrator who was her lover.

"According to the results of the investigation, the quarrel was triggered because the victim asked to end the relationship. The perpetrator, who did not accept the decision, then strangled the victim to death," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, July 16.

The victim's body was only found on Wednesday (15/7) at around 19.00 Wita after the victim's younger brother with the initials RAS came to the boarding house because he could not contact the victim for almost a week. Upon arrival at the location, the witness smelled a pungent smell from inside the room.

Ketut explained that when he entered the room, the witness found the victim had died in a closed condition and was covered with a number of dolls scattered on his body.

The witness then met the perpetrator who was still around the location. Realizing the presence of the witness, the perpetrator immediately fled on a motorcycle before the incident was reported to the residents and the police.

Receiving the report, the Denpasar Police Criminal Investigation Unit together with the South Denpasar Police Criminal Investigation Unit, assisted by the Bali Police Criminal Investigation Unit, immediately carried out the crime scene and hunted down the perpetrators based on information obtained in the field.

Around 23.45 Wita on the same day, the joint team managed to arrest MZ while passing on Jalan Bypass Ngurah Rai, South Denpasar. The perpetrator was then taken to the Denpasar Police to undergo an examination.

The police also revealed that the perpetrator had been in Indonesia for about a year using a tourist visa and was known to have stayed for about a year.

From the preliminary examination, it was found that the victim had forgiven the perpetrator several times who was suspected of repeatedly having an affair. The victim's request to end the relationship was allegedly the trigger for the murder.

For his actions, the perpetrator was charged with Article 468 paragraph (2) and/or Article 458 paragraph (1) of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code, with a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.
