Italy Announces Red Status of Heat Wave in 15 Cities

JAKARTA - The Italian Ministry of Health announced an extreme heat wave warning with a red status or the highest level of danger in 15 major cities.

According to a report from the Italian News Agency, ANSA, the 15 cities are Bari, Campobasso, Genoa, Latina, Palermo, Pescara, Rieti, Viterbo as well as Bologna, Brescia, Florence, Frosinone, Perugia, Rome, and Turin.

Meanwhile, Milan is expected to enter a red status of a heat wave on Friday (17/7).

As reported by ANTARA, Thursday, July 16, the red warning status (level three) indicates a heat wave with prolonged heat and a high risk to health, even for young healthy people.

According to scientists, the climate crisis due to human-caused greenhouse gas emissions has caused extreme weather turmoil, including heat waves, droughts, large-scale storms, and larger and more frequent floods.

Although various sources can create greenhouse gases that cause global warming, the main cause of the greenhouse effect comes from the use of fossil fuels, such as petroleum, gas, and coal.
