Iran Condemns US Barbaric Attack on Near Kenai Children's Cancer Hospital in Ahvaz

JAKARTA - The Iranian government condemned the United States' "barbaric attack" near a children's cancer hospital in the city of Ahvaz in southwest Iran that forced hundreds of children with cancer to be evacuated.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaeimengatakan RS Shahid Baqaei, which is a specialized cancer treatment center for children, was forced to evacuate on Wednesday night due to a US attack near the hospital.

As reported by ANTARA from Anadolu, Thursday, July 16, the barbaric attack caused severe suffering and anxiety to children undergoing treatment there. Meanwhile, 211 patients undergoing chemotherapy were forced to be evacuated after the attack.

Baqaei also called the attack a "cowardly war crime" against children, while comparing it to Israel's attacks on health facilities.

"Those who incessantly preach about human rights, but deliberately ignore attacks on hospitals and health centers, have dropped all the moral credibility they have," he said.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the Mehr news agency reported that the US attack hit a point near the hospital, forcing hundreds of children who were being treated for cancer to be evacuated.

Baqaei's statement came amid rising tensions between the US and Iran in the Strait of Hormuz, with both sides again attacking each other despite having previously signed a peace memorandum, through Pakistani mediation, to end the conflict and seek a permanent peace agreement.
