Transformation of Kaltim Fertilizer Port Achieves 5 Stars Green and Smart Port ASRI 2026

JAKARTA - PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur (Pupuk Kaltim) won the Green and Smart Port - ASRI 2026 award, the Best 5 Star title, from the Coordinating Ministry for Food and Agriculture. This award is a form of recognition for the company's success in implementing port governance that is oriented towards environmental sustainability, digital transformation, and operational safety.

The award was handed over by the Minister of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia, Dudy Purwagandhi, to the President Director of Pupuk Kaltim, Rafli Yandra, witnessed by the Coordinating Minister for Food, Zulkifli Hasan, at the peak of the ASRI 2026 Green and Smart Port Initiatives at C Wharf of the Gresik Petrochemical Port, East Java, Wednesday, July 15.

Director of Pupuk Kaltim, Rafli Yandra, said that this award is proof of the transformation carried out by the company in recent years, which has been able to produce port governance that is not only efficient in terms of operations, but also responsible for the environment and community.

"This award is the result of the commitment of all people at Kaltim Fertilizer in building a modern, safe, efficient, and sustainable port. We believe that industry competitiveness is not only determined by production capacity, but also the ability to manage operations responsibly through the principles of Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG)," said Rafli.

According to Rafli, the development of the port at the Kaltim Fertilizer Special Terminal has referred to the Green Port concept since 2018, with various strategic steps to support the energy transition while reducing the environmental impact of port operations.

One of its main focuses is the utilization of renewable energy in special terminal areas as well as the development of a clean energy ecosystem in the company area. Pupuk Kaltim also strengthens environmental management through conservation programs to preserve biodiversity in the implementation of Green Port.

Currently, Kaltim Fertilizer is developing a sambar deer conservation area, implementing a coral reef conservation program, and maintaining the existence of the endemic flora of the Black Orchid which is the company's conservation icon. In addition, the port operational area is also supported by green open spaces, as part of efforts to create a healthier working environment while supporting the balance of the ecosystem around the industrial area.

"This initiative is also part of support for the directive program of the President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto, through the Movement of Safe, Healthy, Resik, and Beautiful (ASRI) in strengthening the competitiveness of national logistics, especially in the food sector," said Rafli.

Furthermore, explained Rafli Yandra, the success of Green Port must also go hand in hand with digital transformation, in order to be able to provide increasingly fast, transparent, and reliable services. For this reason, Pupuk Kaltim has also developed the Smart Port concept, through the digitization of business processes and the use of information technology in its entirety.

One of them is through the iPortlog innovation, an application that integrates various port operational services. Through this application, all ship service processes can be monitored in real time, ranging from loading and unloading activities, utilization of port facilities, to various operational performance indicators and shipping.

The integrated monitoring dashboard also allows management to obtain operational data quickly and accurately, so that decision-making can be carried out more effectively, while improving coordination between work units.

"Through system integration such as iPortlog, we are able to increase the efficiency of ship services, accelerate business processes, and ensure that all operational activities take place more transparently," explained Rafli.

All these transformations still place safety and security as the main priority. Kaltim Fertilizer consistently implements international safety standards, systematic risk management, periodic emergency response training, and improving human resource competence so that all port activities run safely and reliably.

"In the future, Kaltim Fertilizer will continue to accelerate the transformation of Green and Smart Ports to support operational efficiency, decarbonization, and digitization. We ensure that the Kaltim Fertilizer Special Terminal is not only a world-class port, but also able to make a real contribution to improving the competitiveness of national logistics and achieving sustainable development targets," added Rafli.

The Minister of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia, Dudy Purwagandhi, said that the ASRI 2026 Green and Smart Port Initiatives were an important milestone in the transformation of the national port, towards a more environmentally friendly, modern, and sustainable logistics system. The government also encourages the implementation of the ASRI Movement not only to be applied in the port sector, but also all modes of transportation as part of efforts to improve the quality of national transportation services.

"What we are doing today is one of the very important milestones and we hope that other ports can immediately follow the ASRI Movement. In line with the President's direction, the implementation of this movement in the future not only includes the maritime transportation sector, but also various other modes of transportation," said Dudy.

Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan, emphasized that ports have a strategic role in strengthening the national food logistics system. For this reason, the logistics challenges in the future can no longer be faced in a conventional way, but through gradual transformation to strengthen competitiveness. Including in supporting the smooth distribution of fertilizer to strengthen the national food sector.

"From this effort, the port is not only a logistics infrastructure, but also an important pillar in supporting food security. Where the port also determines the smoothness of supply, suppresses price disparities, and maintains food stability," said Zulkifli Hasan. (*)
