Prabowo Performs Groundbreaking for Masela Eternal Field Project

SAUMLAKI - President Prabowo Subianto officially carried out the groundbreaking or first new laying of the Abadi Masela Working Area Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) project. For information, this project is a natural gas development project that is one of the National Strategic Projects (PSN) in the Energy Sector in Indonesia where INPEX Corporation through its subsidiary INPEX Masela, Ltd. is the operator together with Pertamina and Petronas.

"By saying Bismillahirrahmanirahim, this afternoon on Thursday, July 16, 2026, with the grace of the Almighty God, I Prabowo Subianto President of the Republic of Indonesia, I declare the groundbreaking of the National Strategic Project of the Eternal Masela LNG officially declared to begin," said Prabowo online, Thursday, July 16, 2026.

Prabowo also appreciated various parties involved in this project, such as Japanese oil and gas companies, Inpex and Petronas, who were willing to invest their capital in Indonesia. On the same occasion, Prabowo also admitted that he was proud of the red plate oil and gas company, Pertamina, which took part in the development of the Masela Block.

"Everyone is working together so that this project is successful and quickly produced and produced," said Prabowo.

This project has a production capacity of 9.5 million tons of LNG per year and plays an important role in strengthening Indonesia's energy resilience through the provision of cleaner and more sustainable energy.

Meanwhile, the investment value of the project was confirmed at around 20.9 billion US dollars or equivalent to Rp342 trillion, including an additional component of 1 billion US dollars for CCS technology.

With the support of CCS technology, this project reflects the commitment to provide energy supply while supporting the national energy transition agenda.

In addition, this project is expected to provide added value for the economy through long-term investment, acceleration of the development of the eastern Indonesian region, as well as the creation of employment and business opportunities for the community.

For information, the Abadi Field is located in the Masela Block, the Arafura Sea, Maluku Province, which is located about 12 miles from the nearest island. The Masela Block is located about 750 km south of Ambon, the capital of the Maluku province.

The water depth in the Abadi Field ranges from 400 m to 800 m. The south side of the Masela Block intersects with the border of the Indonesian-Australian maritime territory with the location of the entire Block in Indonesian territory.
