Early Preseason, Shin Tae-yong Focuses on Improving Persija Players' Physicality
JAKARTA - Persija Jakarta coach Shin Tae-yong (STY), took advantage of the 2026/2027 Super League pre-season preparations to improve the physical condition of the players. He emphasized that as the foundation for forming the team's tactics.
"The most basic is physical. After completing the physical training, in the remaining time we will only enter the team tactics."
"By systematically building all of these things, we will prepare ourselves as well as possible to face the next season," said STY as quoted from the official I-League website on Thursday, July 16, 2026.
Under STY's guidance, Persija Jakarta began their first training session at the Persija Training Ground, Bojongsari, on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, as preparation for the 2026/2027 Super League.
In that agenda, there was no intensive training menu for Gustavo Almeida and his colleagues. The initial stage is focused on STY to get to know each other better as a team unit and prepare the players' fitness.
In the first training session, there were still several players who were absent because they were joining the Indonesian National Team for training in Bali.
Meanwhile, Persija Jakarta's new players, namely Victor Dethan, Aqil Savik, Pratama Arhan, Kerim Memija, Denis Kolinger, Radovan Pankov, and Kyohei Sano have already attended training.
From the first training session, STY said that no player had fitness problems. Seeing the situation, he focused on monitoring the young players who joined from the junior team.
"This is the first time we have met and greeted the players. This is a process to build the overall stamina and physical condition that we need in the future. Everything must be built step by step, this will be a good strengthening exercise," said the coach.
