Eradicating Thugs, Police Orders To Hold Extortion Operations In All Ports
SURABAYA - The Head of the Public Relations Division of the National Police, Inspector General Argo Yuwono, emphasized that thuggery is a serious concern for prosecution. Moreover, the blasphemy and extortion of container truck drivers, such as at Tanjung Priok Port, North Jakarta, was ordered by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to be dealt with.
"That's why the President immediately contacted the National Police Chief to resolve the issue," said Inspector General Argo at the East Java Regional Police Headquarters in Surabaya, Friday, June 11.
To eradicate thugs, the National Police Headquarters immediately issued a circular to all Polda in Indonesia. A thuggery operation at the port will be carried out.
"The letters to the Kapolda-Kapolda will be sent soon," he said.
In addition to ports, continued Argo, criminal operations will also be carried out in other places where extortion and extortion are suspected. This instruction is the order of the National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, according to Jokowi's direction.
For now, said Argo, a total of 49 thugs who used to harass container truck drivers at Tanjung Priok Port, Jakarta, have been arrested. They make container drivers restless, because they often commit extortion and extortion.
"Of these 49 there are also incidents at the Cilincing Police, other Polsek and also at the port," he said.
Based on the statements of the victims, the drivers were subject to extortion at every point in the process of transporting goods to the port. The amount of extortion varies from Rp. 2,000 to Rp. 20,000 per unit.
"The driver when he entered the PT delivered the goods, then when he was surveyed he was quoted (asked for a tip), then when he dropped the container he was quoted, when he was washing the car he was quoted as well," said Argo.
He emphasized that the Police pay serious attention to the actions that are troubling the community. Argo also emphasized that thuggery operations will be carried out continuously, not only in certain moments.
