Jorge Martin Happy Marquez Entered the 2026 MotoGP World Champion Title Race
JAKARTA - Aprilia Racing Team rider Jorge Martin welcomes the prospect of a 2026 MotoGP world championship battle against defending champion Marc Marquez, who has started to rise at the end of the first half of the season.
Martin said that winning the world title from the most prestigious motorcycle racing event after fighting with Marquez meant defeating one of the best riders in history.
"Of course the challenge is to beat the best rider in history. So, just being able to compete with him is amazing," Martin said, quoted by Crash.
Currently, the rider nicknamed Martinator is still sitting at the top of the rider standings. The rider from Spain closed the first half of the competition with a collection of 208 points, only 14 points ahead of his fellow Aprilia rider, Ai Ogura, in second place.
The two were followed by Marc Marquez who is now in third place and only 18 points behind after he managed to win a double victory (Sprint Race and Grand Prix) at the weekend at the Sachsenring, Germany.
Winning three major races in the last four series makes The Baby Alien, Marquez's nickname, increase his chances of securing the title. Even though, he is still 102 behind after the Italian MotoGP at the end of May 2026.
Martin said that he would try to give a 100 percent performance after the competition resumes later. He also hopes to make it difficult for his compatriots to defend the title as well as winning his eighth title in MotoGP.
"We'll see later. Right now he's at a much better level than us, but I think when I'm 100 percent in sync with the bike, I can definitely compete with him," he said.
Marquez actually started this year's competition not very convincing after he made an impressive appearance last year to get his seventh title in MotoGP, which matched Valentino Rossi's record.
However, his recent resurgence has automatically made his name back in the spotlight. If he manages to get the eighth title, then Marquez will be on par with Italian legend Giacomo Agostini, who holds the status of the most successful rider in history.
