Zahara and Maddox Place Announcement in the Newspaper to Delete Pitt's Name

JAKARTA - Two children of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Zahara and Maddox, are going through legal proceedings to remove the name "Pitt" from their last name. Both announced the application through the newspaper in accordance with the rules in California.

The Mirror quoted Tuesday, July 14, saying Zahara and Maddox's announcement was published separately in the Los Angeles Daily Journal throughout June and July.

California law requires the announcement of a name change to be published in four editions of a newspaper. A judge can grant the request if there are no objections.

Zahara, 21, filed for a change of name weeks after Maddox took the same step.

USA Today reported that Zahara's petition was published in the Los Angeles Daily Journal between June 16 and July 7. The hearing is scheduled for September 28.

Before applying for the name change, Zahara had already stopped using the name Pitt. She was introduced as Zahara Marley Jolie at a graduation ceremony at Spelman College in May.

Maddox asked that his name be legally changed to Maddox Chivan Jolie. His petition hearing is scheduled for September 14.

A number of Pitt and Jolie's children also no longer use their father's last name. Shiloh completed the name change process in 2024, while Knox used the name Knox Jolie on his diploma from Fusion Academy.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have six children, namely Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Knox and Vivienne.

Pitt and Jolie began dating after meeting while filming Mr. & Mrs. Smith in 2004. They married in 2014, separated in 2016, and officially divorced in 2019.

Pitt is now dating Ines de Ramon. Jolie said she hasn't been dating since the divorce and is focusing more on her children and family.

"To be honest, I haven't been dating since I got divorced a decade ago. I feel like that part of life doesn't take center stage when I'm focused on the kids and the family," Jolie told Yahoo Entertainment.

He said he now wants to return to living a more free life after going through a difficult time.

"I think that I have to live again. Free again," he said.
