DKI Provincial Government Estimates JPO Tendean Losses to Reach Billions of Rupiah, There is No Agreement to Compensate Losses from Truck Owners

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government estimates that the losses due to the truck carrying borepile equipment that crashed into the pedestrian overpass (JPO) on Jalan Kapten P. Tendean, South Jakarta, reached billions of rupiah. Until now, there has been no agreement regarding the compensation mechanism from the truck owner company.

Head of the Data and Information Center of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Road Development Agency, Siti Dinarwenny, said the government was still focusing on demolishing JPOs that had suffered heavy damage. Meanwhile, discussions regarding the liability of the truck owner company have not reached an agreement.

"Regarding accountability for the losses caused, to date there has been no agreement or compensation mechanism from the company that owns the truck that carries the borepile tool," Wenny said in a short message, Tuesday, July 14.

Meanwhile, the driver of the truck involved in the accident has been secured by law enforcement and the handling process will be carried out in accordance with applicable regulations.

According to Wenny, the losses due to the incident were not only in the form of damage to government assets. The closure of JPO also had a social impact in the form of disruption of community mobility in the Jalan Kapten P. Tendean area.

"As a result of this incident, the Department of Road Construction estimates that material losses have reached billions of rupiah. In addition to damage to government assets, the incident also caused social losses in the form of disruption of community mobility due to the inability to function JPO Tendean and disruption of community mobility," said Wenny.

Wenny explained that the results of the technical assessment showed that the JPO structure was severely damaged so that it was not possible to repair it. Therefore, the Road Construction Agency decided to dismantle the entire JPO building in order to avoid risks to the safety of road users.

"This decision was made based on the results of technical assessments in the field where the JPO structure was assessed to have suffered heavy damage so that it was no longer fit for operation and could potentially endanger the safety of road users and traffic flow in the area," he said.

After the demolition is completed, the Department of Road Construction will prepare a technical plan for the reconstruction of the Tendean JPO. However, until now there is no certainty when the construction will begin because it still requires further study.

"Given that the process requires further study, it is not yet possible to determine the time for the reconstruction of the JPO. The priority at this time is to demolish the JPO as quickly as possible so that traffic can run normally again and can be used by the community," said Wenny.

The pedestrian crossing bridge (JPO) on Jalan Raya Kapten Tendean, Mampang Prapatan, South Jakarta, was damaged after being hit by a crane-carrying truck on Tuesday, July 14, at around 00.30 WIB.

Head of the DKI Jakarta BPBD, Marulitua Sijabat, said the accident started when the truck with the police number B 9077 UFU passed on Jalan Raya Kapten Tendean.

The load of the crane carried by the vehicle hit the bottom of the JPO, resulting in damage to the construction of the bridge. The incident had an impact on the traffic jam on Jalan Bangka.

"The driver saw that there was a JPO, but without realizing it the driver was focused on the cellphone. As a result, because he did not take into account the maximum height of the load, the unit being transported was a JPO," said Marulitua.

The collision caused the condition of the JPO to be quite damaged. Even so, BPBD ensured that there were no casualties or injuries in the incident.
