JAKARTA - The Strategic Partnership Action Plan 2026-2030 signed by Indonesia and Vietnam is the main framework for bilateral cooperation between the two countries, said Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono, Tuesday.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono, together with his counterpart, Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung, led the Indonesian and Vietnamese delegations in the 6th Indonesia-Vietnam Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) meeting at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jakarta.
After the meeting, the two main diplomats of each country signed the Strategic Partnership Action Plan 2026-2030.
"This document will be the main framework that guides our bilateral cooperation in the next five years," the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs explained in a joint press statement with the Vietnamese Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tuesday (14/7).
The JCBC meeting this time was used by both parties to discuss various issues related to the implementation of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Jakarta and Hanoi agreed in 2025.
The increase in political, defense, maritime security, cross-border crime prevention (especially narcotics) and bilateral trade cooperation was discussed in this JCBC.
Regarding bilateral trade, both countries, as agreed in the previous JCBC, target the bilateral trade value of the two countries to reach 18 billion US dollars (Rp325.6 trillion) in 2028.
"We are inventorying what we can develop in terms of trade potential," said the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs after the meeting, when asked about efforts to achieve the target for the bilateral trade value of the two countries, adding "The only option we have in order to achieve the target, the challenge we overcome."
Indonesia and Vietnam also agreed to expand cooperation in the fields of agriculture, digital economy, science and technology, and electric vehicles.
