Police Ensure No Tigers Come Down the Mountain to Attack Residents in Garut
Garut - The Garut Police have confirmed that there is no tiger or wild animal that has descended from the mountain and then attacked residents in the Garut Regency area, West Java, as narrated in the video spread on social media.
"Information about the presence of a tiger that attacked three residents in the Gunung Papandayan area is a hoax," said Head of Public Relations Section of the Garut Police, Ipda Susilo Adhi, as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, July 14.
He said, the Garut Police received a video and narrative spread on social media and Whatsapp chain messages regarding the presence of three residents who were attacked by a tiger in the Papandayan Mountain area, Garut, which had caused unrest among the community.
The spread of the video, he said, was then traced by the police which turned out to be unprovable that it happened in Garut, and the results of the search were old videos related to the explosion incident in the Cipatat area, West Bandung Regency.
"The video that is circulating is not an incident in Garut, but a victim of the explosion in the Cipatat area, West Bandung Regency," he said.
He said that the video circulating in the community had nothing to do with the Garut area or not because of the attack of wild animals as narrated due to being attacked by a tiger that came down the mountain.
The police, he said, had also confirmed to the management of the Papandayan Mountain tourist area, and it was confirmed that there was no such incident, so the public did not need to worry.
"We appeal to the public not to easily believe or spread information that has not been confirmed to be true," he said.
He said that the video that was circulating was actually related to the incident where residents found a mortar-type bullet in an active state, without realizing the danger, the victim opened the projectile by hitting it until it exploded.
He appealed to the public not to immediately spread videos, photos, and writings that have not been able to be accounted for their sources and truth.
"It is urged to immediately report to the police if you find information that is suspected to be hoaxes, so that further clarification and investigation can be carried out," he said.
