Barasuara raises the story of new acceptance and hope through the single "Sementara"

JAKARTA - Barasuara greeted the Indonesian music lovers again through the release of a new single titled "Sementara". This work marks their return after the last time they released the third full album, "Jalaran Sadrah", in mid-2024.

Through the medium-tempo song, the group consisting of Iga Massardi (vocals, guitar), Asteriska (vocals), Puti Chitara (vocals), Gerald Situmorang (bass), Tj Kusuma (guitar), and Marco Steffiano (drums) carries a message about the process of self-acceptance, sincerity, and how humans make peace with the collapse of expectations.

The song produced by Barasuara himself was not born from an instant process. Iga said, the initial draft of the "While" arrangement had actually been worked on since 2022. However, the song was deliberately saved and not included in the "Jalaran Sadrah" album.

The door for this song only opened in early 2026, when the band who had been working for 14 years got back together to plan new material. When the old draft was submitted by Iga, all band members immediately agreed to execute it because it was considered to have a strong character.

This song tells the story of the dynamics of human life which often have to deal with failure, even though the plan has been prepared thoroughly.

The failure, according to Barasuara's view, is not always the end of everything, but often becomes a new direction that has not been realized before.

"'Meanwhile' in the lyrics is the essence that we always have plans, desires, ideals or whatever it is. But sometimes it doesn't go as we expected, we experience failure or whatever it is in the middle of the road. But in fact, failure without us realizing it when it happens, it opens another path that we don't even know what it is," said Iga in his statement, Monday, July 13.

This song is packaged with an arrangement that is considered more mature compared to Barasuara's earlier works. The musical structure is made simpler but still has a strong sense of depth.

The production process of the instrument is also not too long if you look at Barasuara's track record in the past which often takes months to complete a work. The recording process of vocals and instruments was carried out throughout April to May.

To enrich the color of the music, they also invited guest musicians, Bass G, to fill in the baritone saxophone and tenor saxophone, as well as Ami Purba on the trumpet.

The emotional dimension in this song is also strengthened through the vocal harmony presented by Asteriska and Puti Chitara. Asteriska added, this song focuses on the psychological stages of humans when faced with despair, where letting go of something is the final phase that takes time and a process of suffering that is not short.

"Acceptance is the final stage in a person's emotional process after a lost hope or loss. In the end, humans are able to let go even though it takes time. This song invites listeners to believe that from grief and the collapse of expectations, new hope or strength can emerge. Not the elimination of feelings, but a new way to move forward," said Asteriska.

Barasuara's return to the recording studio with this perspective seems to reflect their collective maturity after navigating the Indonesian music industry for almost a decade and a half. The band has been recorded to have gone through various significant phases of ebb and flow, including a difficult transition period after the pandemic.

Uniquely, the popularity graph of Barasuara actually skyrocketed again in 2025 when their two songs, "Terbuang dalam Waktu" and "Pancarona", suddenly went viral in cyberspace after being selected as part of the soundtrack (soundtrack) of the feature film "Sore: Istri from the Future". This golden momentum brought Barasuara's music to a much wider generation of listeners.

Furthermore, the launch of "Sementara" is projected to be an opening bridge as well as the first step for Barasuara in collecting new materials that will later enliven the fourth album which is currently in the initial planning stage. This song is expected to be able to serve as a cathartic medium for anyone who is struggling in the midst of uncertainty in life.
