Scientists Find Planets That Have Similar Temperatures To Earth

JAKARTA – In the search for life beyond Earth, researchers from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory and the University of Mexico found a planet that has conditions similar to Earth, namely the planet TOI-1231 b.

According to Sputnik News, TOI 1231 b orbits a red dwarf every 24 days. The planet has an atmosphere of about 330 Kelvin or 140 degrees Fahrenheit.

This is one of the small planets that are predicted to support life and can be used for atmospheric research purposes outside the solar system. From the results of research on dwarf stars at TOI-1231 b.

The researchers observed the planet's composition by taking into account its density. TOI-1231 b the dwarf is older than the Sun and has a temperature similar to that of Earth.

Scientists speculate there may be clouds in the planet's atmosphere. The presence of clouds there can prove the presence of water on the surface of TOI-1231 b.

"Future observations of this new planet will allow us to determine how common (or how rare) water clouds form around this temperate world", said NASA JPL scientist Jennifer Burt.

However, further research is still needed to obtain more comprehensive information regarding the possibility of life on planets outside the solar system.

Diana Dragomir, Assistant Professor in UNM's Department of Physics and Astronomy, said that future research could allow astronomers to see how the planet formed differently around M dwarfs when compared to planets around the Sun.

"One of the most exciting results over the past two decades in terms of exoplanet knowledge is that, so far, none of the new planetary systems we have discovered look like our own solar system", Burt said.
