Vespa Amerigo Vespucci Introduced in New York, Its Saddle Uses a Ship's Screen Fabric
JAKARTA - Vespa introduced a special scooter inspired by Amerigo Vespucci, the legendary training ship of the Italian Navy. The scooter, which was made only one unit, was exhibited with the original ship at the Port of New York.
VisorDown in its report, quoted on Monday, July 13, said that the meeting was the first time that the two Italian icons appeared side by side. Amerigo Vespucci was in New York to attend the Sail4th250, the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States.
The scooter will remain on display alongside the ship for as long as the Amerigo Vespucci is in New York. Both have long been known as part of the identity of Italian design and engineering.
Amerigo Vespucci began operations in 1931. The ship was used by the Italian Navy to train future officers from the Naval Academy in Livorno before serving at sea.
The ship is the oldest active ship in the Italian Navy. Amerigo Vespucci also often sailed to various countries to represent Italy.
Vespa was born 15 years later, in 1946. The scooter, which was originally designed as an affordable means of transportation after World War II, later developed into one of the most recognizable Italian products in the world.
This special Vespa appearance takes the main characteristics of Amerigo Vespucci. The body is wrapped in shiny black with two long white lines, resembling the hull pattern.
The side of the scooter is decorated with graphics inspired by the round windows of the ship. The brown details under the seat and the front fender refer to the color of the wooden guardrail on the side of the Amerigo Vespucci.
The connecting part in front of the scooter uses a color similar to the mast of a ship. The mast is a mast that protrudes from the front of a sailing ship.
The official Amerigo Vespucci graphic is mounted on the left side of the front guard. The image shows a ship with a fluttering sail and the Italian three-color flag.
The most unique part is the seat. Vespa does not use ordinary upholstery, but the original Olona canvas, the same material used to make the Amerigo Vespucci screen.
