Ubed Ready to Make BWF Super 750 Level Debut at Japan Open 2026

JAKARTA - Men's singles badminton player, Mohammad Zaki Ubaidillah, is ready to play his debut match at the BWF Super 750 level tournament at the 2026 Japan Open which will take place this week.

The Japan Open 2026 is held at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium, Tokyo, Japan, on July 14-19, 2026. The tournament provides a total prize of 950 thousand US dollars or equivalent to Rp. 17.1 billion.

Ubed, a nickname for Ubaidillah, after completing a training session with his colleagues on Monday, July 13, 2026, admitted that he was impatient to play the first match in the tournament at that level.

"This year I target myself to be able to play in the Super 750 level tournament as well as the Super 1000 and finally be able to achieve the target. It must be a bigger and heavier challenge because I have met many top players," Ubed said in an official statement.

From the men's singles sector, Ubed fell together with Jonatan Christie and Alwi Farhan in Japan. He will start his journey by facing Rasmus Gemke, an opponent who should be quite balanced for him.

On paper, BWF rankings, Ubed is in 27th place and Rasmus one place behind him. However, the Danish badminton player has more experience in big events.

Ubed said that mental preparation would be the main focus this time. He assessed that facing senior players is not an easy matter.

"Of course, from me, especially mentally and spiritually, it must not be slack, it must be able to control itself as well because it is certainly not easy to meet senior players. Hopefully, I can show my best and be able to live what I have prepared before," said Ubed.

Indonesia only sent 11 representatives to Japan because four mixed doubles had to be withdrawn from the prestigious tournament, including the pair of Jafar Hidayatullah/Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu.

The other three mixed doubles who could not participate were Adnan Maulana/Indah Cahya Sari Jamil, Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto/Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja, and Bobby Setiabudi/Melati Daeva Oktavianti also did not appear.

The Japan Open 2026 is an opportunity for Indonesia to win the first major title in this year's calendar. So far, the best achievement of the Red-White representatives is winning the title at the BWF Super 500 level.
