PVMBG: Anak Krakatau Mountain 19 Eruptions in June-July
JAKARTA - The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) noted that Mount Anak Krakatau in the Sunda Strait, South Lampung Regency, had 19 eruptions throughout the period from June to July 2026, with volcanic activity still at Level III (Alert).
The Head of the Anak Krakatau Mountain Monitoring Post said that the increase in volcanic activity was being intensively monitored through visual and instrumental observations to determine the ongoing development of volcanic activity.
"From June 2 to July 11, 2026, there have been 19 eruptions. The activity of Mount Anak Krakatau is still fluctuating, so monitoring is carried out for 24 hours," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, July 13.
He explained that the results of monitoring showed that seismic activity and gusts were still recorded by monitoring equipment. This condition is an indicator that the volcanic activity of Mount Anak Krakatau is still ongoing.
According to him, the increase in volcanic activity that occurred in early July became the basis for the Geological Agency to raise the status of Mount Anak Krakatau from Level II (Alert) to Level III (Alert). However, the volcanic activity is still in the category that can be monitored by implementing mitigation measures according to PVMBG recommendations.
Therefore, the public, tourists and fishermen are urged not to carry out activities within the radius recommended by the volcanology authority to avoid the risks that can be caused by eruptions and volcanic material ejection.
"Mount Anak Krakatau is still in level III status, fishermen and tourists are asked not to approach within a radius of two kilometers from the crater, Mount Anak Krakatau," he said.
In addition, fishermen who are active in the waters of the Sunda Strait are also asked to continue to monitor the development of official information related to the activities of Mount Anak Krakatau and weather conditions before going to sea.
The public is expected not to be easily influenced by unverified information and only refer to official information provided by authorized institutions.
