Luis Figo backs France to win 2026 World Cup

JAKARTA - Football legend Luis Figo advocates that the French National Team (Timnas) will come out as the 2026 World Cup champion because of their consistent performance since the group stage.

This was conveyed by Figo when he was present in Jakarta to enliven the Higgs Games Island Football Festival (HGI 2026), a program that received support from the Indonesian National Community Sports Community (Korminas) on Sunday, July 12, 2026.

"I think the best team so far is France," the Portugal national team player said in a press conference in Jakarta.

France started the group stage journey perfectly and successfully won all three matches played. At that stage, Didier Deschamps' squad faced Norway, Senegal, and Iraq.

The squad nicknamed the Rooster then underwent a knockout stage match by stopping Sweden, Paraguay, and Morocco. All the victories in the knockout round were won convincingly because they didn't concede at all.

Figo admitted that the other three teams in the semi-finals currently have the chance to be the best. However, he favored France to win their third trophy in the four-year football event.

"When you play well and start the competition consistently, maybe it will give you more chances to be a winner," he said.

France will next face Spain - who have also been so convincing so far - in the semi-finals. Meanwhile, another semifinal match will bring together defending champions Argentina and England.
