Palestinian Death Toll in Gaza Continues to Rise Despite Ceasefire

JAKARTA - The number of Palestinian deaths in the Gaza Strip continues to increase to more than 73,200, as Israel continues to carry out attacks on the Palestinian enclave despite a ceasefire.

Eight Palestinians, including a child, were killed on Sunday by Israeli soldiers' gunfire, amid continued violations of a ceasefire in place since last October, medical officials said, as reported by Anadolu (13/7).

Meanwhile, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society said four Palestinians were killed and two others were injured in an Israeli attack on a building in the Sabra District, south of Gaza City.

Eyewitnesses said an Israeli drone fired at least three missiles at a building in the Al-Rayes neighborhood of the district.

Separately, a medical source said a 9-year-old girl breathed her last due to critical injuries she suffered from Israeli fire in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, the source said.

A Palestinian man also died from wounds he suffered from Israeli fire on Friday east of the Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza, the source added.

Another Palestinian died from wounds after an Israeli drone attack east of Khan Younis in southern Gaza.

Another Palestinian was killed and five others were wounded by Israeli fire targeting refugee tents in al-Mawasi in Khan Younis, medics said.

Meanwhile, Israeli soldiers continued to destroy Palestinian homes and buildings in areas they control south of Khan Younis and east of Gaza City, according to eyewitnesses.

Eyewitnesses said a loud explosion was heard from the demolition operation in Khan Younis and Gaza City, but there were no reports of casualties.

Since the ceasefire came into effect on October 10, 2025, the Israeli army has killed at least 1,098 Palestinians and injured 3,535 others, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health.

The Palestinian news agency WAFA on Sunday reported that the number of deaths due to the ongoing Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip has risen to 73,223, with 173,654 people injured since October 7, 2023, according to medical sources in the region.

Medical sources said a number of victims were still trapped under the rubble and on the streets, with ambulances and civil defense teams unable to reach them.

The deadly Israeli attacks also caused extensive destruction affecting about 90 percent of civilian infrastructure.
