National Cooperative Day, Prabowo Again Says Indonesia Will No Longer Import Solar Starting July 2026
JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto stated that Indonesia would no longer import solar starting July 2026 after the government implemented the B50 biodiesel program. The fuel mixes 50 percent of palm oil products into solar.
Prabowo delivered the statement while giving a speech at the 79th National Cooperative Day Summit at GBK, Jakarta, Sunday, July 12, 2026.
"Starting this month, we will no longer import solar from abroad," said Prabowo.
He said the launch of B50 was carried out a few days before the celebration of Cooperative Day. The program is part of the government's efforts to reduce energy dependence from abroad while expanding the domestic palm oil market.
"Solar is 50 percent of palm oil. Palm oil farmers are in Indonesia. Palm oil in Indonesia," he said.
Prabowo also said that researchers were developing palm oil-based gasoline. The government also encourages the production of ethanol from cassava, corn, and sorghum.
He targets that in three to four years Indonesia will be able to produce gasoline from plants in larger quantities.
"I hope that in three to four years we can also produce gasoline from plants," he said.
According to Prabowo, the development of biofuels can open new sources of income for farmers. Demand for palm oil, cassava, corn, and sorghum will increase if these raw materials are used for energy.
He associated the policy with the agenda of food and energy self-sufficiency. Prabowo claimed that Indonesia had stopped importing food and started exporting a number of commodities in the first year of his administration.
"We are self-sufficient in food. We no longer import food, we export," he said.
Prabowo did not specify the amount of solar imports that were stopped or the production capacity of B50. However, he emphasized that the government would continue to increase the use of domestic resources to reduce energy purchases from abroad.
