GWM Registers Wey V8X with 724 HP, Targets China's Premium Electric SUV
GWM has registered the Wey V8X, a large five-passenger electric SUV prepared to compete in the high-end electric vehicle segment in China. The car is about 5 meters long and has a combined power of 724 hp from two electric motors.
CarNewsChina quoted Sunday, July 12, saying the Wey V8X was included in the vehicle registration documents in China in July. The model uses an all-wheel drive system or AWD, which channels power to the front and rear wheels.
The front motor is made by UAES, a company backed by Bosch, producing 220 kW or 295 hp. The rear motor is supplied by Svolt, a subsidiary of GWM, with 320 kW or 429 hp.
If combined, the peak power reaches 540 kW or 724 hp. The maximum speed of the Wey V8X is recorded at 220 kilometers per hour.
The car has a length of 5,000 or 5,040 millimeters, a width of 2,025 millimeters, and a height of 1,808 or 1,823 millimeters, depending on the variant. The wheelbase is 2,968 millimeters.
The Wey V8X cabin provides five seats. GWM also offers three tire size options, namely 255/50 R20, HL255/50 R21, and 275/45 R21.
The front of the car is made closed without a radiator grille. Active air ducts are still installed to help maintain the temperature of the electrical system.
The two main lights are connected by a LED light line. On the roof there is a LiDAR sensor, a technology that uses laser light to read the distance and conditions around the vehicle as part of the driving assistance system.
The Wey V8X still uses a conventional door handle. The back has lights that are made to be horizontally integrated.
This model is a smaller version of the Wey V9X, a three-row plug-in hybrid crossover SUV previously introduced by GWM. The V9X is positioned as a competitor to the Zeekr 9X and Aito M9.
V8X was initially shown with a plug-in hybrid system. However, GWM then prepared a hybrid and pure electric option through the GWM One platform.
BEV is a pure electric vehicle whose entire energy comes from batteries. As for PHEV is a hybrid car whose battery can be charged from an electrical source.
The registration of the V8X was carried out when GWM was trying to expand its range of new energy vehicles. CarNewsChina noted that new energy vehicles accounted for 30.49 percent of GWM's sales last year.
This year, the Baoding-based automaker is strengthening its PHEV and BEV lines to chase China's changing market.
According to China EV DataTracker, Wey sold 40,828 vehicles in the domestic market from January to June 2026. The figure was up 24.3 percent compared to the same period last year.
