The number of victims of the earthquake in Venezuela has increased to 4,333 people.
JAKARTA - The number of victims who died due to the double earthquake that shook Venezuela on June 24 continues to increase. As of July 11, 2026, the local government recorded 4,333 people died, while thousands of other residents are still surviving in evacuation sites.
The Chairman of the Venezuelan National Assembly, Jorge Rodriguez, said that in addition to the casualties, the disaster also caused 16,740 people to be injured. On the other hand, rescue teams managed to evacuate 6,462 people from the ruins of the building.
"As of July 11, 2026, the number of Venezuelans who died as a result of the devastating earthquake on June 24 reached 4,333 people, while 16,740 people were injured and 6,462 people were rescued," Rodriguez said at a press conference broadcast by VTV on Saturday, as quoted by ANTARA, Sunday, July 12.
The latest data shows that the number of deaths increased by 215 people compared to the previous official report. Meanwhile, the number of injured victims and the number of residents who have been rescued have not changed.
Rodriguez said the government continued to distribute assistance to affected people. To date, assistance has been received by 86,794 families.
The Venezuelan government has also prepared 94 temporary shelters which are now inhabited by 18,437 people. In addition, there are still 17,907 residents who do not have permanent housing after their homes were affected by the disaster.
Based on government data, the earthquake caused damage to at least 856 buildings. Of these, 190 buildings were reported to have been completely destroyed and can no longer be used.
Until now, seismic activity is still ongoing. The government has recorded at least 1,202 aftershocks have occurred since the main earthquake shook the country.
In the process of handling disasters, the government deployed 31,837 rescue personnel assisted by more than 30,000 volunteers. The humanitarian operation was also strengthened by the presence of 2,422 rescue officers from various countries.
